MID AMERICA LEAGUE ANNOUNCES TEXARKANA, TX AS THE NEWEST MEMBER
The Mid America League, a premier summer development baseball league, is announcing Texarkana as the newest member of the Mid America League. Texarkana joins Abilene, Sherman, and White Oak in Texas as well as Fort Smith, Arkansas as inaugural teams. The League will announce the sixth and final franchise for the upcoming season in the next two weeks.
Matt Perry, President of the Mid America League, said, “Texarkana offers a solid market and great geographic fit with 150,000 people in the metro area and a quality facility in George Dobson Field. We are excited to return a summer baseball franchise to the market.
Mid America League teams will play sixty-eight home games from late May through early August followed by playoffs to determine a League champion. Teams will primarily be comprised of college players with franchises maintaining the ability to add select, non-college players. Further, the League will institute a Name, Image, and Likeness program for players to earn income for approved services while playing in Texarkana. Players will stay with host families in the local market during the season.
The Texarkana team will play its home games at George Dobson Field. The city is currently investing in fence repairs and a new scoreboard at the facility and the team will make sizeable investments in upgrading the seating options, ticketing, and concessions. “I am thrilled to extend a warm Texarkana welcome to the Mid America League! The League is in the process of finalizing the team’s ownership group, which is slated to include local investors. An announcement soon will confirm the ownership structure, to include a “meet and greet” opportunity with owners and League representatives.
