Name of Sherman’s new minor league baseball team unveiled
Dec 11, 2023
This is from the KXII.com news article:
Officials from the Mid-American Baseball League announced Monday the new name of the new Semi-professional team coming to town is the Sherman Shadowcats.
In November, the team announced the top five team names for residents to vote on.
Shadowcats was the winner, beating out the other finalists: Sasquatches, Generals, Outlaws, Tanks, and Shellcrushers.
The team’s general manager, David Gest, said they wanted a mascot that resembled the history of Sherman.
“There is a story of running story in Grayson County, the Panthers that roam the area and have been cited in Oklahoma and north Texas,” Gest said.
Gest adds that a Shadowcats also embodies stealth, speed, and skill – similar to the players they hope to have on the team.
“We’re gonna have a hybrid roster, a hybrid model League. We are an independent but minor-league baseball team,” Gest said.
The team, which will play home games at Veterans Field, will feature colors of gold, black and red.
In early 2024, a $200,000 renovation to the field will take place to add upgrades including additional seating, a new scoreboard and a beer garden.
The Sherman Shadowcats will begin their inaugural season shortly after on May 23.
The name was submitted by Danny Heller, a 25-year-old from Trophy Club, Texas, who won free tickets for life.
Tickets are now on sale, and the team’s merchandise will be on sale starting Wednesday. Both can be found on the official Sherman Shadowcat website.
