Lawrence, KS – The Mid-America League is proud to announce that John Maldonado Jr. of the Abilene Flying Bison has been voted the league’s “Defensive Player of the Year.”

Upon being informed of his award, Maldonado said, “I’m super blessed to be named Defensive Player of the Year.  Thank you to my coaches and teammates that got out there every day for early work to help me build my craft on the field to help our team win.”

Maldonado accumulated 59 putouts and amassed an incredible 104 assists while committing just 13 errors and compiling a .926 fielding percentage!

The 21-year-old Kaufman, Texas native started four games with 14 appearances as a true freshman at Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 2022.  John did not play in 2023.
